You only have 3 days to visit the Landes, mission impossible? Camping Lou P’tit Poun has put together a tailor-made itinerary for you to discover the most beautiful spots in the south of the Landes and Basque Country in just a few days. The program includes beaches, nature, culture, gastronomy and much more.

What to do during a 3-day weekend in the south of the Landes?

Day 1: Capbreton, Hossegor, Seignosse

The weekend begins with glorious sunshine and a busy schedule. Once you’ve unpacked, head for Capbreton, the only port in the Landes region. Inaugurated in 1858 by Napoleon III, the Capbreton pier is the emblem of this famous seaside resort on the south coast of the Landes. Right next door, don’t miss the fish market where you can buy fresh fish directly from local fishermen.

Then head to Hossegor, nicknamed “Little California”, cradle of surf culture in France and Europe. Stroll along the streets lined with surf stores and cafés, then head down to the beach to enjoy the golden sands and waves. If surfing isn’t your cup of tea, the lac marin d’Hossegor offers numerous spots to try your hand at leisurely gliding, such as stand-up paddle or Hawaiian pirogue. Finish your day in Seignosse, a quieter resort where you can enjoy less crowded beaches and the ever-present forest. If you’re not pressed for time, admire the sunset on Penon beach.

DAY 2: A trip to the Basque Country

The French Basque Country is a region rich in culture and history. If you only have a day to spend there, here are a few suggestions to help you organize your day’s visit. Start your day in Bayonne, gateway to the Basque Country. Take a stroll through the historic center and visit Bayonne’s magnificent cathedral. Don’t miss the chance to sample local specialities, including chocolates and hams.

Has Bayonne revealed all its secrets to you? Biarritz is the next stage in your discovery of the Basque Coast. This charming seaside resort is renowned for its surf spots, typical architecture and lively covered market. Stroll through the streets and admire the Basque architecture before heading for the Virgin Rock for a breathtaking view of the coast. After lunch, drive back to Guéthary a small fishing village that has retained its authentic charm. At the end of the day, head for Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a city of art and history and a privateer town close to the Spanish border. Take a stroll through the old quarters and visit the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church before enjoying the beach and its charming walkway houses.

Day 3: Enjoy the outdoors and nature

For your last day in the south of the Landes region, how about taking a dip in nature? Rendezvous at the Marais d’Orx Nature Reserve a protected site where you can observe birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Early in the morning, a naturalist ranger accompanies you on a guided tour of the Nature Reserve.

Want to give your children a treat? Take them to Labenne zoo ! A must-see family outing, we recommend a visit! On the way, you’re bound to pass through Ondres and Tarnos . This is where Europe’s largest dune belt begins. A little walk in the woods? The Landes forest, the largest in Western Europe, offers a unique, fragrant atmosphere. You can walk or cycle here by bike or go horseback riding. For a different kind of experience, nature lovers can wear out their shoes in the barthes de l’Adour at Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.
